The assignment was to carve fruit or shoes and I decided fruit would most likely turn out better so I carved an abundance of fruit. I decided my pineapple would be in the middle because it's a cute fruit and has a hat thing so it would be a focus. Then I decided it looked lonely so I added a few strawberries, a pear, an apple, some bananas, and a watermelon in the background. I think my favorite part to draw on paper would have been the strawberries, but they ended up being the worst to carve. My favorite fruit to carve into the styrofoam would be the pear just because it's made of simple lines.
For the project we used trays, plastic scooping knives, a little presser guy, a magazine to cover the table, a roller, and ink. The ink was a little messy but not too bad. I think my favorite part would be rolling the ink onto the styrofoam just because it was not stressful. The hardest thing was getting the prints centered on the paper. Overall is was an okay project. I could have done a little better at centering my images, and carving my pineapple. The leaves and little pokies could have been carved and drawn better. I like how most of my background fruit turned out but the strawberries could use a little work. I liked the project even though the carving was stressful because it's really permanent. I think it turned out pretty well. for my October personal project I think I'm going to draw a Skelton hand with flowers around it, or holding flowers. I wanted to this because it's Halloween month!!! I think the flowers will make the hand look less scary and represent that it was once a person. If it looks too happy for Halloween I might draw dead flowers, but I think the contrast between live flowers and a Skelton hand will look really good. For my background I might just have a solid color, or draw grass.
